General Information:
Hughson is a Council-Manager form of government. Voters elect the City Council to serve as the policy-making board of the City. The Council, in turn, appoints the City Manager to administer these policies.
The Hughson City Council has five members, including the Mayor, elected at-large on a nonpartisan basis for a two-year term. The remaining City Council members are elected for a four year term with at least two seats expiring each election year. The City Council sits as the legislative body, enacting ordinances, orders and resolutions necessary for governing Hughson.
In addition to their representation of the citizens of Hughson, Council Members are appointed to various sub-committees and given other assignments by the Mayor during their terms in office.
The Hughson City Council meets at 7:00 PM on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Special meetings may be called by the Mayor or a majority of the Council Members.
Council Members receive a stipend of $250 per month, with the Mayor receiving $300 per month.
